JANUARY UPDATE: Hello, Kinkatopia!

What a month! I knew from the get go that January was going to be busy and productive. I apologize for not being as present as past months and thanks for your patience! Things are still coming together —the coming months bring new and exciting things, which I will get to shortly.

Kinkatopia is sponsoring Linus kinkajou of Wild Wonders in California. He has been a resident for over 20 years and suffers from medical issues, which we have committed to assist in costs. Please check out Wild Wonders — they are an incredible place. Linus is one many animals with special needs, who are cared for unconditionally.

Arkham and Binx were successfully introduced and now cohabitate in the main room! Binx is obsessed with his big brother. The main room now permanently houses 5 of our kinkajous.

Grant money went toward adding 2 gigantic enclosures to the main room. They are incredible! Big shoutout to our Florida Director of Outreach, Allison Rogers. She helped me assemble and furnish the cages. These additions have so many purposes: quarantine, boarding, housing, dimension, and helping to lengthen the life of the room. (Having 5 kinks in one area requires a lot of upkeep.)

We had a very sweet houseguest who returned to her family in mid-January. Molly kinkajou boarded with us and is such a doll! Kinkatopia offers both short- and long-term boarding.

We officially announced that Kinkatopia is an Arm the Animals ambassador. This is a clothing and accessory (even for pets) company that supports animal-related organizations. Purchasing from armtheanimals.com and using the code “Kinkatopia” will donate 20% of your order to the kinkajous! Talk about a win-win. We love this company and are loading up on their merch. Thanks to all who have purchased — we will be receiving those contributions shortly.

We were blessed with an incredible aviary donation from Amy N. of Jupiter, Florida. It will be assembled next to Oliver’s enclosure, and he will have a neighbor in the future — we don’t know dates as of yet, but Kinky kinkajou will be joining our Kinkatopia family.

Kinkatopia has a waiting list! How incredible! We are trying our best to help everyone we can and there are so many. In January alone, I placed 3 kinkajous with sanctuaries. These were cases that needed to be expedited and I am thrilled with the outcome.

Another shout out to board members Michael K. and Allison Rogers for caring for Kinkatopia, while I took a long weekend to visit family. This is not an easy feat, but they did it! It takes a lot of organization, patience, and dedication. So appreciated!

These last couple of weeks have been cold ones! We have had to take necessary measures to make sure everyone is safe and warm. Oliver came inside and will reside there until the weather warms up.

As many of you know, Chloe has been ill as of late. She has been diagnosed with a UTI and starting medication today. Finger and tails crossed for Chloe! Thank you for all the overwhelming support.

UPCOMING

Kinkatopia will be using some donations (as budget permits) to sponsor and/or assist in the care of sanctuary-housed kinkajous. As you know, Kinkatopia is a “WE” organization that prides itself on unifying owners, enthusiasts, specialists, and kinkajous. Moving forward we will be incorporating this aide into our program. Next on our list is Yoda of Busch Wildlife Sanctuary in Jupiter, Florida. Our goal is to donate furnishings for his enclosure and work with staff to complete this project. Stay tuned for more!

We will start cooking up fundraisers to be able to tackle the goals we are aiming to reach. Please see below for ways you are able to support Kinkatopia — we need your help and cannot do it without you. If you are unable to contribute, please “like” and share! We are on Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube. Thank you so much!

I am still working on the veterinary and state-by-state kinkajou legality lists. I have many holes in my data so please continue to update me on this information!

Kinkatopia will be welcoming our 7th permanent resident. Kinky is a 10-year-old male, who will be placed next to Oliver in a very similarly-styled aviary. I am thrilled to have him join the family.

I will resume videos as soon as possible. I do go live on Facebook occasionally and could integrate that platform more. I appreciate the interaction I get when I do so.

Michelle Martiya of Essential Animal Training will be kicking off kinkajou training this weekend. She will be helping me communicate with them better, teaching them commands to help with daily activities, and expanding our enrichment program.

I also have multiple sanctuaries I will be making upcoming visits to in order to establish kinka- connections. It is important we stick together!

I have had inquiries about kinkacookies. I plan to resume orders in the Spring (before if possible). I have not forgotten and have an up-to-date list of recipient kinkajous. I am also looking for a better way to ship them to prevent breaking. I will notify you all when they will be kicking off again.

WAYS TO SUPPORT

Kinkatopia has many ways to support our cause — not just directly, but indirectly as well.

1) We accept monetary donations in many ways: PayPal, GoFundMe, Venmo, Facebook, ApplyPay, check, and other basic forms of money exchange. Also, most of the above companies recognize Kinkatopia as a charity (if they provide that feature) and you can donate that way as well.

2) The Kinkatopia Amazon Supply List can be accessed at: Amazon Supply List. This is a new way to support Kinkatopia! You can do this on Amazon or for a double win, on AmazonSmile. Donations will be mailed directly to Kinkatopia and Amazon provides you with a receipt for tax time. If you don’t feel comfortable donating funds, this is a great way to help us get supplies.

3) We are on AmazonSmile! Go to amazonsmile.com to make your Amazon purchases and they will donate a percentage to Kinkatopia! We should be receiving our first quarterly payout in February.

4) As mentioned earlier, Arm the Animals will donate to us! Purchasing from armtheanimals.com and using the code “Kinkatopia” will donate 20% of your order to the kinkajous!

5) LOCAL SUPPLY DONATIONS — We are always in need of particular items: newspaper, empty water bottles, used furniture, cat trees, cut tree branches, etc.

6) “Like” and share on Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube.

All donations are tax deductible and receive a thank-you painting by a Kinkatopia kinkajou.

So that wraps it up. Again, thank you so much for everyone’s support and involvement. Let’s keep the momentum going!

Peace, love, and kinkajous.
