July/August Update: Greetings, Kinkatopia!
Wow, we are late on this one — where does the time go? Let’s dive in!
JULY/AUGUST
We are blessed to have such incredible exposure kicking up these 2 months!
60 Sec Docs sent a cameraman out to film for their incredible mini documentary series.
Naturee made Kinkatopia a spectacular compilation of who we are and what we do. View it here.
CBS12 News visited and did an awesome segment on us. View it here.
I am still in awe! I pray the momentum continues to explode. The more people know about us, the greater number of kinkajous we can assist.
Director of Animal Management and Training Michelle Martiya continued her fabulous work with our kinkajous. In addition to target exercises, giving paw for nail trims, and stationing, she is focusing on crate training. I am so proud of the work she does and the results are amazing! Kinkatopia’s kinkajous are stimulated and social. If you’re interested in her work, let us know! She executes in-person and remote video sessions for training via her company, Essential Animal Training. She has also greatly helped to develop our enrichment and overall well-being programs.
The beautiful Ella kinkajou boarded with us — she was a total pleasure! Kinkatopia boards kinkajous for those going on vacation or when unplanned care is needed.
Our latest outdoor enclosure was completed in June! Kinky gave it a go in July, but unfortunately fell ill, so Oliver has moved in and is quite the happy man! Thank you, Tried and True Tattoos of Victoria, Texas — they funded the construction of this addition.
After a week in the new enclosure, Kinky had his first of 2 anemic episodes. We rushed him to the vet to discover this, but have yet to find a cause. He is currently taking vitamins for iron, folic acid, and vitamin B and has not had any episodes since. He has also moved into Oliver’s old enclosure and seems to thrive in the space.
Chloe is doing much better! She finished a 6-week regiment of antibiotics and went to the vet for a sterile urine sample, which revealed no more antibiotics are required at that time. That being said, we are waiting for our vet to consult with the lab company directly, as there were more questions about the results. There is still blood in her urine, but at this time, she appears happy and her behavior is normal.
I’ve continued to reach out to vets and universities with no firm answers. She is under close observation.

Dr. Signe Beebe of Integrative Veterinary Center in California specializes in Western medicine. She was kind enough to consult on both Kinky’s and Chloe’s cases and donate a regime of Chinese herbs to incorporate into their diets.
Oh my goodness, have we had a time needing repairs and renovations! Thank you to our contractor, Steve Miner, for always being on call and willing to help with our needs.
Let’s not forget that Rigby visited Kinkatopia with his family! His mom, Dakota, is on our board of directors. We love having kinkajou visitors. All are welcome!
We’ve had so many amazing visitors and volunteers over the past couple months. Thank you for donating supplies and time to help make Kinkatopia wonderful. You truly make Kinkatopia a *WE* organization.
The Chipotle fundraiser was an overwhelming success. Thank you to all who promoted, donated, and supported. Between the physical and online fundraisers, we raised just under $300 on August 12.
To date, Kinkatopia has assisted in the placement of 11 kinkajous in 2019. Putting the kinkajous’ needs first is our top priority. Kinkatopia has available space and is ready to welcome new residents. That being said, sometimes there are better fits for these special souls. We work to make sure the animals come before anything else and practice complete transparency with all involved.
Keep up to date on our ever-expanding diets and list of vitamins/supplements using #gourmetkinkajou and #kinkajouinfo
We were blessed that Hurricane Dorian crawled by us, but man, what a stressful couple of days! Thank you for the support and to those who sent us items from our Amazon wish list. Even though the storm passed, we still needed to entertain and clean up after 7 kinkajous indoors. You all made our time in limbo as best as it could be.
Shout out to Tonya Carter for making us incredible pouch/hammocks for emergency quarantine. We didn’t expect to use them so soon, but they were made with perfect timing for the hurricane scare. She makes these cage accessories to order for anyone interested.
And just an overall THANK YOU to everyone who supports us. I cannot express my gratitude in words. I could not do this without each and every one of you. I am reviewing the last 2 months for this newsletter and WOW. We are truly blessed.
UPCOMING
I am so excited to announce that Arkham turns 4 on September 15 and for his birthday KINKATOPIA IS OFFICAILLY LAUNCHING OUR WEBSITE!
Don’t forget to ask about CBD gummies!
Kinkatopia is looking for volunteers to help make busy boards and enrichment activities for the animals. We are also looking for help with daily operations. As a 501c3, we can officially sign off on community service hours.
WAYS TO SUPPORT
Kinkatopia has may ways to support our cause — not just directly, but indirectly as well.
1) We accept monetary donations in many ways: PayPal, GoFundMe, Venmo, CashApp, Facebook, ApplyPay, check, and other basic forms of money exchange. Also, most of the above companies recognize Kinkatopia as a charity (if they provide that feature) and you can donate that way as well.
2) The Kinkatopia Amazon Supply List can be accessed here. This is a new way to support Kinkatopia! You can do this on Amazon or for a double win, on AmazonSmile. Donations willbe mailed directly to Kinkatopia and Amazon provides you with a receipt for tax time. If you don’t feel comfortable donating funds, this is a great way to help us get supplies.
3) We are on AmazonSmile! Go to amazonsmile.com to make your Amazon purchases, and they will donate a percentage to Kinkatopia! You just need to select us as your chosen charity.
4) As mentioned earlier, Arm the Animals will donate to us! Purchasing from armtheanimals.com and using the code “Kinkatopia” will donate 20% of your order to the kinkajous!
5) LOCAL SUPPLY DONATIONS — We are always in need of particular items: newspaper, used furniture, cat trees, cut tree branches, etc.
6) “Like” and share on Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube.
7) Check out my articles on Reach Out Recovery! Please follow, like, and share. This platform can help us raise more awareness for Kinkatopia! There are nuggets in these posts that everyone can enjoy.
8) Instagram now offers the ability to hold fundraisers via a donation sticker on your IG stories. Help out Kinkatopia by holding your own personalized IG fundraiser!
All donations are tax deductible and receive a thank-you Kinkatopia bracelet.
Thank you to everyone for your continued involvement and support. Take care!!
Peace, love, and kinkajous.
